Melanie L. Shanty CRPC®

Investment Advisor Representative

Melanie L. Shanty CRPC® is a financial planner with Sequoia Financial Advisors. She joined Lincoln in 1990 with a practice founded by her mother, Patricia H. Roberts, 33 years ago. Melanie began her career working with non-profit employer provided retirement plans and their employees.

With life expectancy well into age 90 and above, she saw a critical need for financial planning. Clients wanted to make sure they were prepared for the transition to retirement. We are all living longer and the need for planning has never been greater.

During this time, Melanie successfully completed the educational requirements for the Certified Financial Planner designation through the College for Financial Planning and obtained the designation of Certified Retirement Planning Counselor CRPC®.

Serving her clients throughout their lives and the lives of their families has been the hallmark of her career.

Melanie is married, has three children, and three grandchildren. Whenever she is not home, you will find her and her husband on the beach at Assateague Island on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Melanie is a co-author with her husband Dr. Frank Shanty on a book about her older sister, Susan.

Susan lived her life and successfully treated her severe mental illness. Once her mother died, Melanie stepped in to be Susan's advocate and they developed an even closer relationship. This is their story. The book, titled Shatterdays, talks about the effect Susan's bi-polar illness had on her life and recovery. Susan was courageous, gentle and loved her family.

Melanie is a volunteer with the Harford County CASA; Court Appointed Special Advocate program. This wonderful organization's volunteers represent children and young people who are in the Court system due to neglect and abuse. They attend the court hearings and advocate on behalf of the child.

Melanie is on the Board of Directors of the Harford Belair Community Mental Health System. This organization provides local mental health services such as out patient mental health treatment, mobile treatment teams, day programs, family programs, and residential opportunities.

Melanie is a registered financial planner in Maryland and holds her Series 6, Series 7, and Series 63 FINRA securities licenses.
